Finding the Cause
We check why the tile failed, whether it was an impact, movement, damp or poor adhesion, before replacing it.

Cracked, loose or hollow tiles replaced without redoing the floor
In Brief
Tile replacement and repair is removing individual cracked, chipped, loose or hollow tiles and fixing new ones in their place. Done carefully, only the damaged tiles are taken out, the surrounding tiles are left in place, and the replacement is bedded, levelled and grouted to blend in as closely as possible.
A single cracked tile can spoil a whole floor, but redoing the floor is rarely necessary. If the damage is limited to a few tiles, they can be cut out and replaced. The skill lies in doing it without cracking the neighbours: the old tile is broken out piece by piece, the old adhesive cleaned off, the base checked and the new tile bedded flush with the others.
The main challenge is finding a matching tile. If you have spare tiles from the original job, use them. If not, we help look for the closest available match, or suggest a neat way to blend a different one. Before replacing, we find out why the tile failed: a hollow sound, a loose group of tiles or a repeating crack can mean a bigger problem underneath, such as movement, damp or a failed waterproofing layer. See floor tile installation if a larger area needs retiling, and grouting and re-grouting for the joints. Our main tiling service page covers all tiling work.
