A split AC cools a room with an indoor unit on the wall and an outdoor unit outside, joined by copper pipes, a drain and cables. Where those units go matters a great deal: the indoor unit needs clear airflow across the room and not straight onto a bed or desk, the outdoor unit needs space to release heat, and the pipe route should be short and tidy. A well-placed unit cools better, runs more quietly and is easier to service later.
