Planning the Circuits
We plan how many circuits you need, where points should go and what each must carry, before any cable is run.

Old or overloaded wiring replaced with a planned, tested installation
In Brief
Home rewiring is replacing the cables, circuits and fittings in a home or part of it with a new, planned installation. It is done when wiring is old, damaged or overloaded, or as part of a renovation, and it ends with the circuits tested and the walls made good.
Wiring does not last forever, and the way we use it has changed. Where a home once had a few lights and sockets, it now has several ACs, kitchen appliances, chargers and electronics, all drawing power through circuits designed for much less. Old, brittle or damaged cable, overloaded circuits, too few sockets and a crowded board are common reasons to rewire, and a renovation is often the cheapest time to do it.
We start by planning the circuits: how many, where the points go and what each circuit needs to carry, so the new installation matches how you use the home. Cables are run in conduit or trunking, old wiring is removed or made safe, and a suitable distribution board is fitted if needed. We test every circuit before power is restored, and make good where walls and ceilings were opened. Rewiring ties in with distribution board repair, renovation and fit-out and, afterwards, painting. The overall service is on our electrical works page.

Old cables are removed or made safe so no dead or unsafe wiring is left in the walls.
New cables are run in conduit or trunking, with joints in proper enclosures and not buried in plaster.
New sockets, switches and light points are fitted in the agreed positions.
A distribution board with suitable protection is fitted or upgraded where the installation needs it.
Every circuit is tested before power is restored, and walls and ceilings are made good ready for finishing.
We look at the existing wiring and talk through how you use the home, then plan circuits and points.
We confirm what will be rewired, how it will be phased and the price before starting.
Old wiring is removed or isolated and new cables, points and the board are installed.
Circuits are tested and labelled, walls are made good and we explain the new layout.
Every property is different, so we confirm the price before any work starts. These are the things that most often change the time and cost.
Frequent tripping, warm or discoloured sockets, flickering lights, brittle or damaged cable, or an old installation of unknown condition are signs. We inspect and tell you whether a repair or a rewire makes sense.
Often partly, if the work is phased by area. We discuss this when we plan the job.
It can involve opening walls and ceilings to run cables. We plan routes to keep this to a minimum, and it is easier during renovation when finishes are being replaced anyway.
We make good after the electrical work. Plastering and painting can be arranged through our painting team.
It can be done in parts, such as one floor or a kitchen, if the existing installation and board suit that. We advise on the safest approach.
